Three Common Types of Surfboards

Lulu Roberts is an experienced editor and news professional working for companies such as Amazing Magazine and Ming Pao Chinese Newspaper. When not at work, Lulu Roberts can be found playing tennis, rock climbing, and surfing. While there are many types of surfboards, three of the most common include the foamboard, the longboard, and the shortboard.

1. The foamboard is the board most commonly used by beginners. This is because it has a large soft surface that is ideal for learning, and forgiving when the surfer falls. In addition, it is relatively inexpensive, but as it is one of the largest styles of surfboard, it can be heavy and difficult to store.

2. The longboard is the largest of the surfboards, reaching lengths up to nine feet. In addition, this type features a rounded nose, and is the easiest surfboard to paddle. The long length provides stability, making it ideal for tricks, but its size also means that it is very difficult to turn.

3. The shortboard is the shortest board, and is often used in competitive surfing. As it is the most sensitive, it provides a good platform for experienced surfers. However since it is so short, paddling out to the surf is the most difficult with this board.
